Apple Sauce & Red Hots Salad

1 3 oz box Jell-O cherry
1 cup water boiling
1/3 cup red hots
1 1/2 cup applesauce
nuts (optional)

Cookie red hots in boiling water until melted, stirring frequently. Pour over gelatin, add applesauce & chopped nuts. Pour into 1 quart mold or an 8 x 8 pan. Refrigerate until set. Spread on softened cream cheese or mayonnaise if you so desire.
