Basic Chocolate Cake

27 - 35 minutes 350 degrees 8 or 9 inch round cake
2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter softened
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
4 ozs unsweetened chocolate melted
1 cup milk

FROSTING
2 cups brown sugar
6 Tbsp butter
6 Tbsp heavy whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two 8 or 9-inch round cake pans. In medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. In large bowl, beat sugar and margarine until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and eggs. Stir in chocolate. Alternately add dry ingredients and milk, beating well after each addition. Spread batter evenly in greased and floured pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 27 - 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans. Cool completely. FROSTING: Put all ingredients in a pan and boil and stir to soft ball stage (240 degrees). Let stand to 160 degrees. Add vanilla and beat.
