Best Apple Dumplings

45 minutes Pre-heat oven to 450 deep baking dish Peel & core apples
6 good size apples
1 double pie crust
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp nutmeg
6 dabs butter
1 cup sugar
2 cups water
3 Tbl butter
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Make crust for two-crust pie. Roll out and cut into 6 (7inch squares) Peel & core six good size apples. Set each apple in the center of a square of pastry. Fill apple core cavities with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg mixture. Put a dab of butter on top of each apple. Bring four corners of the square of pastry up over the top of the apple and overlap. Place dumplings in a baking dish with a little room between them. Make a hot syrup of sugar, water, butter and spices. Stir and bring to a boil. Let simmer for 5 minutes. Take one cup of mixture and pour over apples. Bake at 425 degrees for 45 minutes. Save the rest of the syrup and pour over dumplings just before serving.
