Hickory Nut Cake

30-45 min 350 3- 9 inch cake pans Frost with carmel frosting
1/2 cup shortening softened
1/2 cup butter softened
2 cups sugar
2 3/4 cups flour
4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup milk skim
1/2 tsp vanilla
3/4 cup hickory nuts
6 egg whites at least 3/4 cup

Cream softened shortening and butter together Gradually add sugar and cream until fluffy. Add in nuts and vanilla Stir in sifted flour, baking powder and salt alternatively w/ milk. In a separate bowl beat 6 egg whites to stiff peaks and then fold into mixture
