375 degrees
2 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 Tbl anise seed
1 1/2 cups almonds raw, sliced
1/4 lb butter at room temp
1 1/4 cups sugar
3 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/4 tsp anise extract
In a bowl stir together flour, baking powder, salt aniseeds, and almonds. Set aside
In large mixing bowl cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Continue to beat on
medium and add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition and scraping down the sides of the
bowl. Bean in vanilla and anise extract. Reduce speed to low and add flour mixture a third at a time beating
well after each until thorought incorporated. Beat until smooth dough forms.
Turn dough out onto lightly floured work surface. Divide into 4 equal portions. Using the palms of you hands,
roll each into a log 12 in by 1 1/2 in. Place on parchment and flatten to 1/2 in thick.
Bake in preheated oven about 18 minutes until light golden brown. Remove and let cool about 10 minutes. Cut
into 1/2 inch slices on diagonal. Place on parchment and bake another 8 to 10 minutes until nicely golden
brown on the edges.
